Bio

Bima Sapkota is an Assistant Professor in the School of Mathematical and Statistical Sciences at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (U.S.). I earned my PhD in mathematics education from Purdue University and my master’s in mathematics education from Tribhuvan University, Nepal. My primary research areas are practice-based teacher education, discipline-specific teaching and learning, teachers’ curricular decisions, and social justice in education. I investigate how mathematics preservice teachers develop and conceptualize discipline-specific practices when they engage in practice-based instructional activities. So far, I have taught secondary mathematics methods courses, elementary and middle school mathematics methods and content courses, a research methods course, and a social-justice-focused course.
